Sarah Peebles was raised in Kinloch, Missouri. Her early years were spent living in her maternal grandmother's apartment in one of the city's housing projects along with other relatives. The apartment was overcrowded to say the least, which often became the subject of neighbor's complaints. Eventually, her parents decided to move out of the apartment into an old rundown house. She endured many cold winter nights due to the lack of a furnace and other hardships experienced by those who live in poverty. Despite the financial hardships and other problems her family dealt with, none of them affected her studies. She wanted to finish high school believing it was the furthest she could go. Back then, she thought that college was not meant for her. But, she was willing to make the most of what she could have and use it to start a better life. She strove hard to do well in school, trying to remain strong in the midst of the problems she faced at home. In the end, she not only finished high school. She attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where the pursuit of a better future began.
